About
CILA
Background
Information literacy is a essential skill in the Information Age.
Instead of drowning in the abundance of information that floods
our lives, information literate people know how to find, evaluate,
and use information effectively to solve problems or make decisions.
The information one selects could come from a computer, a book,
a government agency, a film, or any number of other possible resources.
Bearing this concept in mind, Chinese Information Literacy Association
(CILA) was formed by scholars and practitioners in 2003 to play
a key role in preparing members for the demands of today's information
society.
Visions, Missions, and Goals
Our Visions :
CILA is a dynamic and entrepreneurial non-profit organization,
providing collaborative services to members for research, educational
and social development of information literacy.
Our Missions :
CILA will provide the highest quality for member services, and
will employ state-of-the-art methods and technologies to harness
a rich array of cultural, recreational, and intellectual resources
and thereby create a future in which every member has ready and
easy access to the full range of information literacy resources.
Our Goals :
To make aware to educators and the general public that information
literacy is a fundamental competency skill for lifelong learning.
To incorporate information literacy into the education and
the work place.
To provide educators and practitioners a significant public
access point and activities such as seminars, workshops, and events
to acquire information literacy resources.
To disseminate knowledge of information literacy through publications
and advocacy groups
To provide government with an information literacy developing
model and assessment systems.
Governance
CILA is a member-owned and member-governed organization. Board
of Directors and steering committee will foresee the implication
of all services and activities relative to information literacy.
The Future
In the future, in order to effectively implement information
literacy programs, CILA will emphasize active cooperation among
members drawn from classroom faculty, academic administrators,
librarians and other information professionals. We will continuously
and constantly evaluate the outcomes of information literacy
programs to create a supportive atmosphere and practical opportunities
for cooperation among members.
